Twenty Ways to Forget Your Ex

You've recently suffered heartbreak. Now, all you need is to get him or her out of your system. It is hard to forget the person you loved so much but it is not hard to forget the ill feelings that can leave you vulnerable and depressed for a long time if not tended to. So here are twenty great ways to forget your ex and move on with your life.

1. To begin with, do not try too hard. The harder you try, the more difficult it gets. You cannot get over the pain in one night. Give it sometime and at the same time keep working gradually on getting over the bad patch.

2. Accept the reality. Your ex is gone. You both have life to live on.

3. Do not try to bury your past completely for it will always find ways to come back to you, staring you in the face. See your relationship as the gift that it was and be thankful for it.

4. Clear the negative feelings from your mind. The more angry and sour you feel the more difficult it will be for you to move on. Find forgiveness for your ex and you will find peace within yourself.

5. Do not spend time thinking of taking a revenge. If you live well after he or she has left, that is revenge enough.

6. Change your surroundings and alter your routine. Throw or donate to charity the stuff that reminds you of your ex. From photographs to clothes, perfumes, make up, little gifts from him or her, movie tickets of the show you watched together - or just about anything that brings back that surge of memories. Redecorate or even remodel if you have to! Change your daily itinerary. Get up at a different time, incorporate a daily walk, or start a garden!

7. Take care of your health. Go ahead and pamper yourself. A breakup is the time when your self-worth takes a dip. So, if you go out shop for yourself, get that ultra care beauty treatment done or maybe write something good about yourself. It will make you feel better.

8. Keep yourself busy. Engage yourself in work (do not become a workaholic) or take up a new hobby. Read books, redecorate your room, clean (or change) the wardrobe, or finish those pending chores. There are so many better things to do than just brood over a broken relationship.

9. Spend time with old friends and family. You have been much involved with "the love of your life". Now, it's time to catch up with old friends and the kin whom you've not contacted in a long while. It is time to revive back relationships and get in touch with those you haven't spoken to in some time.

10. Stop driving by your ex's home or workplace to check out on his or her 'new' life. Let them go and give them back to themselves.

11. Exercise and meditate. These things can relieve you from mental and physical stress that often results from the emotional trauma of broken relationship.

12. Get spiritual and religious. Prayers can wither off agony faster than anything else. Feeling at one with the universe can make your ex seem very, very small in the big picture of such immense life and the grand expanse of time.

13. Socialize with new people. And maybe - just maybe - you can start dating again, too! Who knows you'll find someone who is actually worth thinking about rather than your useless ex.

14. Get in to new groups, clubs, and 'cliques'. Stay away from mutual friends of both your ex and you for a while. Hanging old with the old group means having to hear your ex's name brought up - and maybe unwelcomed news about a new person in their life. A hiatus from this would be very warranted! Yes, go out and join some new groups or clubs, and get on with a fresh new lease on your social life.

15. Play with pets and kids. Get a puppy, a kitten, a bird, or even an aquarium. Having a new being in your life that loves you and needs your love and attention is just the thing to cure a broken heart. Take your kids, your neighbor's kids, or even your nieces or nephews to the zoo or the park for a picnic. Children have a way of making you smell the roses and feel the sunshine on your face.

16. Travel to new places or any special place you've always wanted to visit. Low on time or cash - or both? Then become a tourist in your own town.

17. Get on with life by doing things you always wanted to do but could never find time or reason to do them.

18. Indulge in recreational activities like listening to music, playing indoor or outdoor games.

19. Making someone happy is often a way to forget your own miseries. You can do charity, volunteer for some local cause, visit the children's hospital with gifts, or just make a pact with yourself to do one kind deed to a stranger every day.

20. If after repeated tries, you are still not able to get over the pain, you can get professional help of a psychiatrist or 'good living' therapist.
